Immigration South Africa
Do my pets have to be quarentined when arriving in South Africa?
Quarantine for pets is such an unpleasant experience and no owner of a pet wants to have their beloved animals stay in quarantine area when arriving in South Africa for a lengthy period of time.
In order for this to become null and void, the South African Department of Agriculture issues pet permits to foreigners importing certain species of animals into South Africa, this allows the pet to be realeased at immediate arrival once their owners/guardians go to collect the pet. This South African pet permit must be applied for before arrival (at least 6 weeks beforehand and not more than 3 months prior to arrival) in order for the correct medical tests to be conducted.
