Spousal Permits
What is a South African Spousal Permit?
A South African Spousal permit relates to a South African citizen or permanent resident who has married a foreigner, and the couples want to reside in South Africa.
If the couple has been married for less than 5 years, permanent residence would not be an option, but temporary residence can be applied for in order to reside in South Africa.
If a couple has been married for 5 years or more, temporary and permanent residence can be applied for simultaneously.
If the spouse of the South African citizen or permanent resident would like to work or operate a business, this is possible, an additional endorsement would need to be applied for in order to conduct work or operate a business in South Africa.
