Are the financial requirements for a South African retired visa necessary for each applicant?

When applying for a Retired visa to reside in South Africa – the amount of the prescribed monthly income required is identical, for both temporary and permanent residence, but the two different applications have different requirements as to per person.

The South African temporary residence retired visa application requires the prescribed amount to be proven is based on a per month and per person (number of applicants) basis, with the prescribed amount to be proven for a maximum period of 48 months (four years).

In the event that South African permanent residence based on the retired category is being applied for, the prescribed amount to be proven based on a per month and the income is required to be life-long guaranteed – one of the applicants is required to prove the whole amount.  Joint income to make up the prescribed amount is not accepted by the Department.
