What is all risks cover in South Africa?

What is All Risks cover?

All Risk cover is cover that will cover your specified possessions anywhere in the world. It is especially useful for items that you takle out of the house often that would

What is the average clause in South Africa?

The Average Clause:

If you have under insured yourself this will result in Average being applied to your policy. The Average Clause reasons that if you have under insured
yourself, you have taken a portion of the risk on for yourself and have “self-insured” it. Thus at claims stage you will only be paid out a rateable
portion of the claim.

For example: Should you insure your building for R500 000 but it should actually be insured for a R1 000 000, and your claim is for R200 000. Then you
will be paid out R100 000 as you are 50% under insured.

What is the claims procedure for vehicle accidents in South Africa?

Claims procedure for vehicle accidents in South Africa

To submit a claim in South Africa it would involve the following:

* You would need to lodge the claim with your broker or insurance company directly, depending on your circumstances. This would involve completing a

claim form, obtaining 2 quotations for the repairs of the vehicle, a copy of your license and the police case reference number. All of these documents

should be sent to your insurer/broker.

* Once these documents have been received and lodged, an assessor would be appointed and would visit the client and ensure that all the details that have

been declared are true and correct. If they are satisfied that this is the case they will authorise repairs.

* You can then take your vehicle in for repairs.

Should you have had a bad experience with your current insurer and would like more efficient service in any potential future claims, Incompass Insurance

Services can be of assistance.

What is the difference between specified and unspecified all risks in South Africa?

Unspecified All Risks

Under this type of cover you can insure items normally taken away from the house against an un-foreseen event, without having to state each and every

item. The items will be insured at the current replacement cost, subject to an overall sum insured that one would select when applying for this cover.

There is usually a monetary limit for any one article under this section, if one item included in this section exceeds about R1 000 or R1 500 (depending

on the various companies), it must be specified.

Specified All Risks

If items are insured under this section, each item will be separately insured; therefore an individual rate would apply to each item, depending on the

level of risk associated with that specific item. For example a cellular phone would carry more risk than a watch. It is important to have valuation

certificates for these items, to prove that they are the property of the insured as well as to prove the value in the event of a claim.
